Congregation Tikkun Olam's religious school welcomes all children in second
grade through eighth grade. Students are given the opportunity to learn about
their heritage, customs, rituals, and the Hebrew language. We hold an annual
Children’s Service which is organized and led entirely by our religious school
students to give them the opportunity to practice the songs, prayers and
Hebrew that they have learned during the year.
Children learn through a variety of activities including discussion, problem
solving, music, arts, texts, prayer books, and the Torah. Topics discussed
during the school year include the Ten Commandments, Jewish holidays, Jewish
culture and history, life cycles, Jewish decision-making, and charitable
efforts. Hebrew is taught along with songs and prayers. We use an interactive
program which allows the students freedom to express their opinions and share
ideas. Family, home and community are emphasized, and parent participation is
encouraged.

We strive to teach ways in which we can incorporate Judaism into daily life.
It is our goal that each student truly learn what it means to be Jewish and
how to "Tikkun Olam" (repair the world). Each year, we explore ways in which
we can reach out into the community to do our part in social action and to
make the world a more inviting place. Our active youth group alternates
service projects with social activities and gives the students the opportunity
to work together and socialize with their Jewish friends outside the classroom
setting.
