Congregation Tikkun Olam

"Congregation Tikkun Olam embraces Jewish heritage, culture, and religious philosophy. Our congregants are not divided by differences, but bonded by shared values, individual freedom and the quest for spirituality."

Congregation Tikkun Olam, McHenry County's only Reform Jewish congregation, was founded in 1996. We are a congregation that respects religious diversity. Our mission is "to improve the world" through our Judaism and participation in our community."

Through the gracious gift of members volunteering their time and talents, our congregation functions as more of a havurah, without its own building, full-time rabbi, or staff. This enables us to keep our membership rates low, while still offering a full range of programs for our members.

We hold Shabbat services on the fourth Friday of each month, High Holy Day services, and periodic holiday celebrations and additional services. You and your family are welcome to attend any time.

Our religious school meets on alternate Sunday mornings during the school year and offers students the opportunity to learn in a supportive and interactive atmosphere. Private B'Nai Mitzvah lessons are arranged to prepare our students to be called before the Torah.

We have a Youth Group which enables our students to get together for both social and service-oriented activities while fostering their Jewish friendships outside the classroom. In addition, we offer a number of adult programs with a variety of activities specifically designed to perk an adult's interest.

We believe, as a congregation, that the best way to serve the needs of our growing community is through the active participation of our members. We invite all to join us at the monthly Board of Trustees meetings to share ideas, programming enhancements, and for the chance to volunteer time and talents.
